The Georg Fischer PP-V backing flange is a fully thermoplastic loose ring for flanged transitions in metric PE100 polyethylene piping. It covers pipe outside diameters from d90 mm to d180 mm (nominal sizes DN 80 to DN 150) in pressure class PN16 and works together with PE flange adaptors (stub ends) to form mechanically stable, leak-tight joints under continuous hydraulic pressure.

The ring is moulded from virgin polypropylene reinforced with 30% chemically coupled glass fibres (PP-V), which gives high structural stiffness, dimensional stability and resistance to creep. Unlike metal or epoxy-coated ductile iron backing rings, the PP-V body is immune to galvanic and chemical corrosion, atmospheric weathering, salt spray and aggressive soils, so there is no coating breakdown, rust weeping or bolt seizure in industrial, municipal water and utility installations.

Bolt circle and bolt hole geometry conform strictly to EN 1092-1 and ISO 7005 (formerly DIN 2501) PN16 dimensions. The optimised cross-sectional profile spreads bolt tightening torque evenly across the shoulder of the PE stub end, preventing stress concentrations and cold-flow deformation of the polyethylene sealing face. Standard metric zinc-plated or stainless steel hex bolts and studs are used, allowing fast assembly in plant piping as well as in trench utility runs.
