Long sweep bend 45° malleable iron
The Georg Fischer Fig. 40 galvanised malleable iron long sweep bend provides a reliable 45-degree directional change for utility, industrial, and building services piping systems. Conforming to EN 10242 and ISO 49 design symbol G4/45 degrees, the fitting features an extended radius curvature that significantly reduces localized fluid turbulence, head loss, and dynamic flow resistance compared to standard short-radius elbows. Cast exclusively from premium whiteheart decarburised annealed malleable cast iron grade EN-GJMW-400-5 in accordance with EN 1562, the component delivers outstanding mechanical tensile strength, high elongation capacity, and optimal structural resilience under continuous operating stress. Superior long-term corrosion resistance is achieved through uniform hot-dip galvanising in compliance with EN 10242, applying a heavy-duty protective zinc layer exceeding 500 g/m2 (approximately 70 µm average layer thickness) using high-purity zinc, satisfying stringent drinking water hygiene parameters defined under DIN 50930-6. The joint configuration includes an internal parallel pipe thread Rp at one end and an external taper thread R with a defined 1:16 taper ratio at the other, engineered according to EN 10226-1 and ISO 7-1 to ensure robust metallic flank compression and permanent pressure tightness in conjunction with an approved jointing compound. This fitting is engineered for heavy industrial duties, rated for a maximum permissible working pressure of 25 bar at fluid temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to 120 degrees Celsius, and 20 bar at 300 degrees Celsius, with intermediate pressure limits determined by linear interpolation. Validated for comprehensive process security, the Fig. 40 bend is suitable for potable water distribution, heating networks, chilled water circuits, compressed air lines, non-aggressive liquid media, and FM-certified fire extinguishing pipelines across sizes from 1/4 inch to 4 inches.
