The ELGEF Plus electrofusion coupler from Georg Fischer (GF Piping Systems) joins PE100 pipe in utility water and gas networks with a controlled, repeatable weld. In SDR 11 it is rated 16 bar for water and 10 bar for gas across d20 to d900, while the SDR 17 range covers d160 to d1200 at 10 bar water and 5 bar gas. The body is moulded in black PE100 (RAL 9005) from 100% virgin, PE100+ Association approved resin, dimensioned to EN 12201 for water and EN 1555 for gas, and fused with standard electrofusion equipment.

Fusion is made through 4 mm pin connectors, with limited path fusion indicators confirming the completed cycle. Smaller sizes include integral pipe fixation, and couplers up to d160 carry a removable centre stop for repair joints on fixed pipework. Large couplers from d355 to d800 use active reinforcement: d355 to d500 are fused monofilar, both ends simultaneously, while d560 to d800 are bifilar and welded end by end. FM 1613 approval for underground fire protection at 15 bar covers d90 to d315 and d355 to d500, and every fitting is documented through the Track & Trace traceability system.

PE100 delivers a yield stress of 25 N/mm² and a tensile E-modulus of 900 N/mm² at 23 degrees Celsius, Charpy notched impact strength of 83 kJ/m² at 23 degrees and 13 kJ/m² at minus 40 degrees, and thermal conductivity of 0.38 W/m·K. The material is corrosion-free with high chemical and UV resistance, giving a product lifetime over 25 years and an estimated 100 years in utility service.
