The Georg Fischer metric ABS to stainless steel adaptor union provides a detachable transition between solvent-cemented ABS piping and threaded metal equipment. It covers pipe outside diameters from d20 to d63 mm with R 1/2" to R 2" male taper threads and is rated PN10 (10 bar) at 20 degrees C. Typical duties are industrial cooling installations, chilled water loops, drinking water circuits, marine piping and water treatment plant.

The assembly combines an ABS solvent cement socket bush in RAL 7001 gravel grey, an ABS union nut shaped for controlled tightening, an EPDM profile O-ring and a union end machined from WN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) stainless steel. The 316L end resists pitting and crevice corrosion and carries the thread load without distortion or seizing when the union is made up against brass, bronze, cast iron or stainless steel valves, pumps and instrumentation. One fitting therefore pairs the corrosion resistance and low thermal conductivity of engineering thermoplastics with the mechanical endurance of a marine-grade alloy.

In plant design and maintenance the union removes the need to cut pipework when equipment is serviced, valves are calibrated or a secondary loop is reconfigured: the nut is released and the line parts at a defined point. The socket end is prepared with the cleaner and the Tangit ABS solvent cement formulated for this material, producing a homogeneous chemical weld, while the R taper male thread seals against compatible female parallel or taper ports using an approved thread sealant. ABS keeps a high notch impact strength at low operating temperatures and its smooth bore holds hydraulic losses down, which is why it is specified for chilled and refrigerated water service.
