The Georg Fischer Type 546 Pro pneumatic ball valve automates isolation and flow control in industrial chemical distribution, water treatment and effluent process lines. The body is moulded in isotactic β-PP-H and supplied with metric socket fusion spigots in the d16 to d63 mm range, while the true double union construction is rated at a nominal pressure of 10 bar (PN10 / SDR 11) at 20 degrees C.

Actuation comes from a PPA pneumatic actuator with a glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP-GF) housing, set to fail-safe-to-close (FC) operation so the valve shuts immediately when control air pressure is lost. The flame-retardant housing tolerates aggressive industrial atmospheres, runs on a 5.6 bar control air supply and reaches actuating times of 1 to 2 seconds. Sealing follows ISO 9393-2 and EN 12266 leak rate A, with low-friction PTFE ball seats carried on EPDM or FKM backing rings that keep operating torque low and protect the sealing surfaces under continuous cycling.

A standardised VDI/VDE 3845 NAMUR interface accepts pilot solenoid valves, position feedback units and limit switch boxes without adapters. The true double union design allows radial removal for scheduled maintenance without spreading the pipework, and the Z-dimensions stay backwards compatible with earlier GF 546 Generation 1 and 230–235 series installations, which simplifies plant upgrades. Stainless steel threaded inserts in the valve base provide stress-free anchoring to structural supports, while the optical position indicator and the manual override allow visual status checks and manual operation during servicing.
