The Type 240 from Georg Fischer (GF Piping Systems) is an automated ABS wafer butterfly valve for isolation and flow regulation in thermoplastic process piping. It is mounted in the intermediate wafer position between backing flanges and combines an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene body with a single-acting pneumatic spring-return actuator configured fail-safe-to-close (FC): if control air pressure is lost or the plant shuts down, the preloaded springs drive the disc back into the closed position and prevent uncontrolled draining of the downstream circuit.

The profiled EPDM liner and sealing interface deliver bubble-tight bi-directional shut-off in cooling circuits, chilled water loops and industrial water treatment installations. The actuator housing is glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP-GF), light and impact resistant in aggressive industrial atmospheres. A full 90 degrees stroke is completed in 1 to 2 seconds at a nominal control air pressure of 4.2 bar. The integrated NAMUR interface to VDI/VDE 3845 accepts solenoid valves, position feedback switches and limit switch boxes without adapter kits, while the optical indicator shows disc status during routine inspection rounds.

The range covers DN50 to DN300, metric outside diameters d63 to d315, rated PN10 from DN50 to DN250 (d63 to d280) and PN5 at DN300 (d315), both at 20 degrees Celsius. Face-to-face dimensions follow EN 558 series 20 and ISO 5752, so the valve aligns stress-free between backing flanges drilled to EN 1092, ISO 7005, DIN 2501, ANSI B16.5 Class 150 or JIS B 2220. ABS keeps its impact strength and ductile behaviour at low temperatures, which suits secondary refrigeration loops and process utility lines.
