PVC-U plain/threaded union Rp PN16 with EPDM O-ring

This PVC-U union joins a metric solvent cement socket to a parallel internal female thread (Rp) to ISO 7-1 / EN 10226-1, the two ends drawn together by a union nut seating on an EPDM O-ring. It forms a demountable transition between cemented PVC-U pipework and threaded equipment such as pumps, filters, instruments and metal adaptors, rated PN16 at 20 degrees Celsius and available from d16 to d110 mm with threads from 3/8 to 4 inch.

The body is produced in unplasticised polyvinyl chloride, dark grey RAL 7011 — a rigid thermoplastic with high chemical resistance to acids, alkalis and saline solutions and full immunity to electrochemical corrosion. Sealing is taken on the EPDM O-ring rather than on the thread flanks, so the joint stays tight through repeated disassembly. EPDM retains its elastic recovery down to -40 degrees Celsius; the union operates from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, with the standard thermoplastic pressure derating applied above 20 degrees Celsius.

On site the socket end is chamfered, cleaned and bonded with a PVC-U solvent cement; the threaded end receives a tapered male end (R) sealed with PTFE tape — thread pastes aggressive to PVC-U must be avoided. Releasing the union nut frees the connection for servicing, inspection or pump replacement without cutting the pipe run, which makes the fitting standard practice in water treatment plants, swimming pool circulation, irrigation headworks and dilute chemical dosing lines.
