The metric ABS-brass adaptor fitting is a transition component that links solvent-cemented acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) pipework to metallic valves, equipment and threaded ports. Manufactured by Georg Fischer (GF Piping Systems), it pairs a thermoplastic cement end with a precision-machined brass taper male thread (R) and is rated PN10, 10 bar at 20 degrees Celsius, in line with the metric ABS pressure pipe range it belongs to.

The plastic end is dual-function: it works as a solvent cement socket and as a spigot, so the fitting can receive a pipe or be bonded into the socket of another fitting. Outside diameters d20, d25 and d32 mm carry male threads R 1/2", R 3/4" and R 1", matching gravel grey (RAL 7001) metric ABS pipe with 1.65, 1.95 and 2.10 mm wall thickness. An EPDM O-ring in the transition zone keeps the metal-to-plastic interface tight through thermal cycling and pressure fluctuation, while the taper thread gives positive mechanical engagement in female metal ports.

Typical duties are industrial cooling and secondary refrigeration, chilled water circuits, water treatment plant, drinking water networks and marine installations. ABS resists internal scaling, corrosion and erosion and stays ductile at low temperature, down to minus 40 degrees Celsius. Where the run meets pumps, heat exchangers, brass isolating valves or metal manifolds, the machined insert removes the need to cut threads in the plastic and limits stress on the joint.

Jointing on the plastic side is by cold solvent welding with Tangit ABS cement and the matching cleaner, for a homogeneous permanent joint; pipe, fittings, unions and EPDM or FKM sealed valves from the same metric ABS range complete the installation.
