The Georg Fischer PVC-U adaptor socket Rp PN16 creates a controlled transition between solvent-welded metric pipe networks and threaded components, valves or metal fittings. One side is a smooth metric solvent cement socket, the other an internal parallel female thread (Rp to EN 10226-1 and ISO 7-1). Moulded in unplasticised polyvinyl chloride in dark grey RAL 7011, the fitting is rated for 16 bar continuous duty (PN16) at a reference temperature of 20 degrees, with a 50-year design service life. Variants cover solvent cement sockets from 20 to 110 mm with Rp threads from 1/2" to 3".

Stabilised PVC-U combines high mechanical rigidity and dimensional stability with broad chemical resistance to inorganic acids, alkalis and saline solutions. The non-corrosive thermoplastic body rules out electrolytic degradation, pitting and scale build-up, keeping flow dynamics clean and the medium free of contamination. Typical duties include drinking water distribution, industrial water treatment, chemical process loops, swimming pool circulation and agricultural irrigation. Nominal pressure is defined at 20 degrees; de-rating applies at elevated media temperatures.

When mating with male R taper threads, use only plastic-compatible sealing materials such as PTFE tape. Pasty thread pastes must be avoided, since they can induce chemical stress cracking in thermoplastic threads. The socket side is joined using standard solvent cementing practice: chamfer and deburr the pipe spigot, degrease and clean both bonding surfaces with a dedicated cleaner, then apply Tangit PVC-U, Tangit PVC-U Plus, or Tangit DTX where chemical exposure is severe. A correctly executed joint forms a cohesive chemical weld able to carry the full PN16 rating over the service life of the line.
