The Georg Fischer PVC-C ball valve 546 Pro FO is a pneumatically actuated two-way ball valve built for demanding industrial media. Its PPA actuator works on the fail-safe-to-open principle: a spring return drives the ball to the open position whenever the compressed air supply or the control signal is lost, keeping the line flowing during an unplanned plant stop. The valve is supplied with threaded sockets to ISO/Rp in diameters from 16 mm to 63 mm, with EPDM or FKM seals selected according to the medium, and is rated PN 10 at 20 degrees C.

Body, ball and union ends are moulded in PVC-C, a post-chlorinated compound that retains mechanical rigidity, flame retardancy and chemical resistance at service temperatures well above those of PVC-U and withstands aggressive acids, alkalis and salts. The ball runs on PTFE seats for a low, stable operating torque, while the actuator housing is moulded in glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP-GF) for robustness in wet and corrosive plant rooms. Stainless steel threaded inserts take the mounting hardware, a visual position indicator shows the ball position, and an emergency manual override allows the valve to be moved by hand during commissioning or maintenance.

Pneumatic supply is routed through an integrated NAMUR interface to VDI/VDE 3845, so solenoid valves, positioners and LED feedback modules mount directly on the actuator without adapter kits. Face-to-face (z) dimensions and union nuts remain interchangeable with the first-generation 546 series, allowing a retrofit into existing PVC-C installations without reworking the pipework. Typical duties include chemical process and dosing lines, water, wastewater and demineralised water treatment, electroplating and surface treatment, microelectronics and PCB manufacturing, and marine systems.
