The Georg Fischer PROGEF Standard 90 degrees bend is a spigot fitting in polypropylene, dimensioned SDR 17.6 for a nominal pressure of PN6 (6 bar) with water at 20 degrees Celsius. Manufactured by GF Piping Systems to EN ISO 15494, it is available in metric sizes from d50 mm to d500 mm and changes flow direction over a wide radius, which keeps turbulence and localised pressure loss lower than a sharp elbow geometry.

Material selection follows the dimension: isotactic beta-PP-H homopolymeride covers the smaller and medium sizes up to d315 mm, while random co-polymeride PP-R with MRS 10 MPa is used from d355 mm up to d500 mm. Both compounds offer wide chemical resistance against non-oxidising acids, alkalis, salt solutions and many solvents, and neither corrodes galvanically nor encrusts, so the hydraulic cross-section stays constant over the service life.

The extended spigot ends accept conventional butt fusion according to DVS 2207 as well as contact-free infrared (IR) fusion, where the internal bead stays small and joint repeatability is high — an advantage in process lines where internal deposits must be avoided. The homogeneous weld produces a material-identical connection with the pipe and with the other PROGEF Standard butt fusion fittings and valve bodies.

Typical duties are industrial process water, treated wastewater and effluent, and chemical distribution in water treatment plants and process industries. The range is designed for a 25-year operational life with water at 20 degrees Celsius, while service temperatures run from 0 to 80 degrees Celsius with the corresponding pressure derating. Every fitting is checked at the Georg Fischer production plant for outer diameter dn, minimum wall thickness emin and ovality.
