The ELGEF Plus electrofusion tapping saddle is a PE100 branch fitting from the Georg Fischer modular saddle system, used to form a welded outlet on an existing PE main without cutting the pipeline. It is built in SDR11 and rated for 16 bar water and 10 bar gas distribution, with main and outlet dimensions covering d90 to d250 mm.

The saddle is positioned on the scraped and cleaned pipe surface, clamped mechanically and fused through integral heating coils supplied from standard 4 mm pin connectors. Limited path fusion indicators give a visual check that the fusion cycle has run, and each fitting carries Track and Trace data for full documentation of the joint. Because the branch is welded before the main is drilled, the connection can be completed under pressure, keeping the network in service during the tapping operation.

The body is moulded in PE100 (RAL 9005) from PE100+ Association approved, fully compounded virgin resins. The material gives a yield stress of 25 N/mm² and a tensile E-modulus of 900 N/mm² at 23 degrees Celsius, with Charpy notched impact strength of 83 kJ/m² at 23 degrees Celsius and 13 kJ/m² at -40 degrees Celsius, so the fitting remains serviceable on cold sites. Density is approximately 0.95 g/cm³, thermal conductivity 0.38 W/m·K and the thermal expansion coefficient 0.15-0.20 mm/m·K. The welded joint is corrosion-free and homogeneous with the pipe, which supports the 100-year estimated lifetime quoted for utility applications.
