The Georg Fischer Type 578 Lug butterfly valve with bare shaft is an industrial quarter-turn solution engineered for isolation and throttling in thermoplastic piping installations. Designed for cooling circuits, chilled water loops, industrial water treatment, and marine piping, this valve combines polymer corrosion resistance with standardized actuation interfaces. The bare shaft design provides complete versatility, allowing direct coupling with pneumatic actuators, electric actuators, or manual gearboxes via the DIN/ISO 5211 mounting flange without intermediate adaptor brackets.

Constructed as a full-lug valve, Type 578 features an outer body moulded from 30% glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP-GF30) with integrated stainless steel SS316 threaded inserts. This mechanical structure allows the valve to be bolted between flanges or installed as an end-of-line isolation valve. Unlike standard wafer valves, the lugged body allows downstream piping maintenance and equipment removal while upstream sections remain under operating pressure up to PN10.

The wetted disc is manufactured from high-impact Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), paired with an EPDM sealing sleeve providing bi-directional shut-off with low operating torque. ABS offers smooth hydraulic surfaces, impact strength, and resistance against scaling, salts, and chilled water glycol solutions. Overall face-to-face length conforms to EN 558 and ISO 5752, matching EN 1092 PN10, DIN 2501, and ISO 7005 flange patterns.
