Reducing socket PVC-U metric PN16

The Georg Fischer metric PVC-U reducing socket (long pattern) is an industrial fitting for diameter transitions in solvent-cemented unplasticised polyvinyl chloride pipework. It creates a smooth hydraulic step between pipeline sections of different bore, limiting turbulence and local pressure losses. The body is moulded from high-grade PVC-U compound in dark grey RAL 7011 and dimensioned to the EN ISO 1452 metric series, with sizes from 20 x 16 mm up to 225 x 200 mm.

The nominal pressure rating is PN16 (16 bar) at a reference water temperature of 20 degrees C, with the standard de-rating factors applied as the operating temperature rises. The working envelope runs from 0 degrees C to 60 degrees C. PVC-U combines mechanical rigidity, high tensile strength and proven long-term hydrostatic endurance with broad chemical resistance to inorganic acids, alkalis, aqueous saline solutions and industrial wastewater, while the smooth bore resists internal scaling and corrosion.

Jointing is by solvent cement socket fusion: socket and spigot form a homogeneous, leak-tight chemical bond with the connecting pipework. The tight metric tolerances give an interference fit that distributes the cement evenly and develops high shear strength when approved solvent cements such as Tangit are used. Pipe ends must be chamfered, cleaned and prepared before assembly, and thread pastes that attack PVC-U must be avoided.
