The Georg Fischer (GF Piping Systems) Type 244 lug-style butterfly valve with ABS disc provides automated quarter-turn flow control in industrial thermoplastic piping. It is supplied with a pneumatic actuator of the PA-30 to PA-55 series in Fail-Safe to Open (FO) configuration: a 90 degrees stroke operates the valve in normal service, and the spring return drives the disc to the fully open position whenever control air pressure is lost. The range covers metric dimensions from d63 (DN50, 2 inches) to d225 (DN200, 8 inches) at PN10, 10 bar at 20 degrees Celsius.

The fail-open principle suits safety bypass loops, emergency cooling lines and gravity discharge circuits, where interrupting the flow would cause overpressure or thermal stress on the installation. With no manual override, the actuated assembly delivers fast and repeatable isolation in process duties where the valve position must be defined by the control system at all times.

The ABS disc works against a high-grade EPDM seal for tight shutoff, while the valve body is moulded in polypropylene reinforced with 30 percent glass fibre (PP-GF30) for structural stability and resistance to corrosive industrial environments. Stainless steel SS316 threaded lug inserts integrated into the body allow the valve to be bolted directly between flanges or installed at the end of a line, so downstream pipework can be removed for maintenance while the upstream section stays under full PN10 pressure.
