The Georg Fischer Signet ultrasonic level sensor V1 is a non-contact instrument for continuous liquid level measurement in industrial liquid handling, chemical processing and water treatment plant. It is mounted above the liquid surface and derives the level from the transit time of the ultrasonic pulse it emits and receives back from that surface, so no measuring element, membrane or moving part is immersed in the process medium. Build-up, abrasion and chemical attack on a wetted sensing face therefore disappear from the maintenance plan, and the instrument suits tanks, sumps, open channels and collection basins holding aggressive liquids.

The one-piece injection-moulded PVDF body gives chemical resistance in corrosive fluids and aggressive chemical solutions, while fully solid-state circuitry dispenses with internal potentiometers and so removes electronic drift, keeping calibration stable and readings repeatable through long periods of continuous duty. The operating temperature range runs from 15 to 85 degrees C.

The sensor is supplied either with the Signet digital S3L output or with a field-scaleable 4 to 20 mA analogue loop, and integrates into automated process control through direct compatibility with Georg Fischer Signet 9900, 8900 and 9950 multi-parameter transmitters. Coupled with the Signet 8058 signal converter, a standard 4 to 20 mA signal becomes digital S3L serial data, which simplifies wiring topologies, allows DIN-rail or inline wire mounting and centralises parameter configuration across multi-channel transmitter networks. Dual-threaded process connections allow mounting on a tank fitting, a conduit connection or direct integral assembly with field-mount transmitter enclosures.

The instrument belongs to the Signet systems and level group of the measurement and control programme, where modified and special-order configurations are quoted individually and normally carry a four to six week lead time. As an authorised Georg Fischer distributor, BigWeld supplies original Signet instrumentation together with the matching transmitters, converters and mounting hardware.
