The Georg Fischer (GF Piping Systems) PVC-U plain/threaded socket Rp reinforced is a transition fitting for rigid industrial pipework, joining solvent-cemented metric lines to threaded equipment, valves and instrumentation. Moulded in unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) in dark grey RAL 7011, it combines a metric solvent cement socket with an internal parallel female thread (Rp to ISO 7-1 and EN 10226-1) and is rated PN16, 16 bar at a reference temperature of 20 degrees. Sizes run from 16 mm - 3/8" to 63 mm - 2".

The defining feature is the external stainless steel reinforcing ring fitted around the Rp thread. In unreinforced thermoplastic threaded parts, excessive make-up torque or thermal expansion generates hoop stress that can develop into longitudinal stress cracking. The metallic collar absorbs the radial expansion forces, stabilises the socket wall and allows the joint to be tightened securely without bursting the body or distorting the thread flanks.

PVC-U offers high chemical resistance to inorganic acids, alkalis, saline solutions and treated water, so the fitting stays free of corrosion, scaling and erosion wear in long service. The plain side is assembled with the standard solvent cement procedure on a chamfered, cleaned and primed pipe end, while the threaded side accepts metal or plastic male taper (R) components. Seal the parallel Rp thread with PTFE tape or thread sealants verified as compatible with thermoplastics; solvent-based or oil-based pastes harmful to PVC-U must be strictly avoided. The nominal pressure applies at 20 degrees and must be de-rated at higher medium temperatures.

Typical duties include chemical process lines, water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial cooling circuits and irrigation infrastructure, where the fitting maintains dimensional consistency and a smooth bore with minimal pressure loss.
