The Georg Fischer Type 2291 guided wave radar level transmitter provides continuous contacting level measurement in demanding industrial liquid applications. Guided wave radar (GWR) technology directs high-frequency microwave pulses along a probe assembly straight into the liquid, so the signal stays focused instead of spreading through the vapor space. This transmission principle eliminates interferences caused by low dielectric constants, dense vapors, chemical fumes, foam layers or internal vessel obstructions such as agitators and heating coils.

Designed for challenging process conditions where non-contact ultrasonic or free-space radar sensors fail, the Type 2291 operates reliably during intense turbulence, foaming and shifting vapor layers. Concentrating microwave energy along the physical probe allows installation in compact tanks with restricted space, narrow nozzles and close proximity to vessel walls, without generating false echo reflections or losing signal integrity.

The instrument suits aggressive chemical processing and water treatment infrastructure: storage tanks for solvents, ammonia and chlorine, chemical reaction and buffer vessels and, in water and wastewater systems, pumping stations, sludge processing and water conditioning tanks. The transmitter integrates into Georg Fischer Signet monitoring and control architectures together with the matching controllers, S3L converter, relay modules and 4-20 mA output modules covered by the attached data sheets. As an authorised Georg Fischer distributor, BigWeld supplies calibrated process instrumentation across Europe, supported by expert technical assistance.

  • Measurement principle: guided wave radar (GWR), contacting level measurement
  • Process immunity: turbulence, heavy fuming, low dielectric liquids and conductive foam
  • Installation versatility: confined tank geometries and narrow nozzle connections
  • Target media: industrial solvents, aggressive chemicals, wastewater sludge and process water
  • Automation compatibility: integration into industrial monitoring and control networks
