Georg Fischer (GF Piping Systems) metric ABS PN6 pipe covers the large-diameter end of the ABS range, with outside diameters of d250, d280 and d315 mm supplied in 5-metre lengths with plain ends. The material is acrylonitrile butadiene styrene in RAL 7001 gravel grey, and the PN6 class is rated for continuous service at 6 bar at 20 degrees C, with an operating window from minus 50 degrees C to plus 60 degrees C.

ABS combines the rigidity and chemical resistance of the acrylonitrile and styrene phases with the elastomeric toughness of polybutadiene. The result is ductile behaviour instead of brittle fracture when the line sees pressure surges or sub-zero service, which is why the metric PN6 series is specified for chilled water distribution, industrial cooling circuits, water treatment plant and marine process lines. The smooth bore resists scaling and encrustation, so hydraulic head loss stays low across the service life of the network and pumping energy is not eroded by progressive fouling.

Jointing is by cold solvent cementing with Tangit ABS cement, forming a permanent chemical weld without hot work or welding machinery, an advantage in occupied plant rooms and on board vessels.
