The Georg Fischer Type 240 wafer butterfly valve in ABS is a pneumatically automated quarter-turn valve built for isolation and throttling duties on demanding process lines. Its spring-return actuator is configured fail-safe to close (FC, normally closed), so the disc is driven to a leak-tight closed position whenever the control air supply is lost. The ABS body combines high impact strength, broad chemical resistance and ductile behaviour at low temperatures, which suits cooling circuits, chilled water loops, industrial water treatment plants and marine installations. The pneumatic actuator runs in a rugged housing of glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP-GF) that withstands aggressive atmospheres, chemical exposure and mechanical stress. It operates from a standard control pressure of 4.2 bar (60.9 psi) and carries an integrated NAMUR interface to VDI/VDE 3845, so solenoid valves, positioners and limit switch boxes mount directly. A full 90 degrees stroke is completed in 1 to 2 seconds for fast process shut-off, and the optical indicator on top of the drive confirms disc position at a glance.

Internally the valve seals with EPDM, giving bidirectional bubble-tight shut-off up to the full PN10 rating at 20 degrees Celsius. The wafer body follows EN 558 and ISO 5752 face-to-face dimensions and installs between piping flanges in metric sizes from d63 mm to d140 mm (DN50 to DN125), with a universal bolt-hole geometry matching EN 1092, ISO 7005 PN10, DIN 2501 and ANSI B16.5 patterns.

In a metric ABS system rated PN10 at 20 degrees Celsius, the valve completes solvent-cemented networks of Georg Fischer ABS pipe and fittings, connected with PP-GF, PP-steel or steel backing flanges.
