The Georg Fischer 281 malleable cast iron hexagon nipple provides an engineered mechanical joint designed for rigid pipe systems requiring dual right-hand and left-hand external threaded connections. Operating through opposing right-hand (RT) and left-hand (LT) taper external threads compliant with EN 10226-1 and ISO 7-1, the fitting enables simultaneous joint tightening or disconnection of two stationary female-threaded sections simply by rotating the central hexagonal body, functioning without requiring rotation of the adjoining pipework. Manufactured from decarburised annealed whiteheart malleable cast iron grade EN-GJMW-400-5 in strict accordance with EN 10242 and ISO 49 (Design Symbol A), the body delivers exceptional resistance against mechanical shock, torsional stress, and pressure surges. Available in an electroplated-free black finish or a high-purity hot-dip galvanised coating suitable for potable water applications, the fitting provides superior corrosion protection and long-term service life. The component operates safely up to a maximum permissible working pressure of 25 bar at fluid temperatures between -20 degrees Celsius and 120 degrees Celsius, and up to 20 bar at elevated temperatures of 300 degrees Celsius. Integrated spanner flats across the hexagonal perimeter (sizes 22 mm to 70 mm across the 3/8 inch to 2 inch nominal range) ensure positive tool engagement during assembly, while leak-tight sealing is achieved on the 1:16 taper threads via metallic contact supplemented with approved PTFE tape, hemp, or anaerobic jointing compounds across industrial heating, natural gas, compressed air, and water utility networks.
