The Type 240 ABS wafer butterfly valve manufactured by Georg Fischer (GF Piping Systems) is an automated quarter-turn unit engineered for isolation and throttling duty in industrial cooling, chilled water circuits and water treatment systems. The ABS body and the EPDM profile seal provide reliable shut-off from DN50 to DN125 (metric pipe sizes d63 to d140 mm) at a nominal pressure rating of PN10. The impact-resistant ABS construction is immune to chemical corrosion and galvanic degradation, which suits the valve to low-temperature secondary refrigeration circuits and process water distribution.

Actuation is provided by a double-acting (DA) pneumatic actuator with a rugged housing in glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP-GF), a non-metallic enclosure that resists aggressive industrial plant atmospheres. Working air-to-open and air-to-close, the actuator delivers a smooth 90 degrees stroke with cycle times of 1 to 2 seconds at an operating control pressure of 4.2 bar. An integrated NAMUR interface complying with VDI/VDE 3845 allows pilot solenoid valves to be mounted directly on the unit, while the integrated optical indicator confirms disc position at a glance.

The compact wafer body follows the face-to-face dimensions defined in EN 558 and ISO 5752 and installs directly between companion flanges conforming to ISO 7005, EN 1092, DIN 2501 and ANSI/ASME B16.5 Class 150. The EPDM liner acts both as the internal disc seat and as the external flange gasket, so no separate flat gaskets are required when the valve is bolted into the pipeline.
